Privacy Policy

Matin is designed to help you wake up with a personal morning briefing. This policy explains what information the app uses and how it supports the experience.

Information Matin may use

Depending on the features you enable, Matin may use:

  • Your name or nickname so the briefing can greet you.
  • Alarm settings, including wake time and briefing preferences.
  • Notification permission so Matin can alert you when needed.
  • Location permission to provide local weather in your briefing.
  • Calendar permission to summarize tomorrow's events and note birthdays in your briefing.
  • Subscription purchase status provided by Apple.
  • An anonymous identifier generated on your device and tied to your subscription. This is not your name, email, or Apple ID.
  • Basic diagnostics, if applicable, to understand crashes and improve reliability.

How your briefing is created

Each morning, a small payload is sent from your device to our backend so your briefing can be generated. It includes tomorrow's calendar event titles and times, birthday names from your calendar, your approximate location for weather, your selected personality and preferences, and your anonymous identifier.

This payload is processed by:

  • Anthropic (Claude), which generates the briefing script and receives the event titles and birthday names.
  • ElevenLabs, which generates the audio and receives the generated script.
  • Cloudflare, which briefly hosts the audio file on R2 storage. The file is automatically deleted after 24 hours.

Your calendar account never leaves your device. Only tomorrow's events — and the names of anyone with a birthday that day — are sent, and forgotten after your briefing.

How this information is used

Matin uses your information to create and deliver your morning briefing, remember your settings, support subscriptions, and improve app reliability. Calendar and location data are used to generate the briefing and are not sold.

Permissions

Location, calendar, and notification access are controlled by iOS. You can grant, deny, or revoke these permissions at any time in the Settings app on your device. If a permission is turned off, related parts of your briefing may be unavailable.

Subscriptions

Purchases and subscription status are handled through Apple. Matin may receive confirmation of whether your subscription or free trial is active, but payment details are managed by Apple. Your anonymous identifier is associated with the subscription so the app can verify entitlement on your device.

Data sharing

Matin does not sell your personal information. The processors listed above receive only the data needed to generate your briefing. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the app and its users.
